Manchester graffiti artist kELzO was part of the UK Hip Hop youth movement of the mid 1980's. He is old skool and his work is some of my favourite graffiti along with Akse. Hulme in Manchester became one of the biggest outdoor graffiti art galleries in Europe thanks to this amazing graffiti artist.
The area was condemned for demolition in 1991 but in the background was a variety of art movements. kELzO and friends painted the whole area top to bottom for 6 years. I have been so lucky to capture his work before someone destroys it with some utter disgraceful graffiti over it. No respect in my eyes.
kELzO's career has taken him all over the world, from New York where the movement first inspired him to many other cities across the USA and Europe. He has appeared in magazines, documentaries, books and has been commissioned by some of the largest companies in the world as well as working regularly on set designs for the BBC.
I just want to add that this fellow Mancunian street artist, has spent 20 years decorating the walls of Manchester and has kindly allowed me to use his images on my website. I appreciate this so much and will credit all his amazing art.
